OZ Arts Nashville hosts the Modular Art Pods Exhibition
JUNE 23-26, 2016
Brown Dog Bindery was one of 70+ artists chosen to participate in OZ Arts Nashville's TNT event Modular Art Pods curated by Nashville artist and event organizer, Tony Youngblood. This event was part of OZ's week long celebration of visual and performing arts. Jennifer Knowles presented an on site artist talk on June 23rd and was chosen by the pod artists as Best Pod in the Lightness Into Dark exhibition cluster. Jennifer had a few months to construct a 4 ft square "pod" with interactive audience components. Titled The Shrine of Wolves and Mist, she chose to construct a wooden box with an elevated dome made of paper fans. There were Brown Dog shrines on the interior and exterior of the piece acting as reliquaries for the bone and insect totems that related to the interior mist power and the exterior wolf power. Participants were presented with subjective or objective riddles depending on the direction from which they entered the pod. They were then tasked with leaving a reply in the form of scrolls that were inserted into the walls of the shrine referencing the Wailing Wall and connoting a catching and releasing of prayer and personal power.
