Jennifer Knowles works in mixed media sculpture and assemblage integrating wood carving, handmade paper, leather working, pyrography, and historical binding. She is a recipient of the Tennessee Arts Commission and Tennessee Association of Craft Artists Master Artist and Apprentice Grant and The Samuel Watkins Award for Excellence Prize. She teaches at colleges, universities, and arts organizations throughout the southeastern United States. Her sculptural work, artists books, and photographic works are exhibited and collected internationally.

 

Brown Dog Nashville was formed in 2010 by local artist and educator, Jennifer Knowles. From its inception, Brown Dog has facilitated workshops, events, and festivals focused on Book Arts. BDN has co-founded events such as The Nashville Print Crawl and Handmade & Bound and has fostered creative collaborations like The Nashville Limited Edition Club.

 

Preserving historic processes is a passion for BDN and is the driving force behind educational outreach that includes traditional  processes like printmaking, letterpress, paper making, natural dyes, and book binding.
